Blood orange, rose petal, kalamata olive. Watermelon, burnt cherry, tomato skin. Strawberry, white pepper, and some volatile acidity...
Lebanon is one of the worlds oldest recorded wine regions. Wine production in Lebanon dates back to at least 780 BC and Lebanon is even referenced in the Bible as producing wine of exceptional quality. The primary winegrowing zone in Lebanon is the Bekaa Valley which thrives thanks to its infertile soil, near constant sunlight, and high altitude cooling influence. The Bekaa Valley is located on an inland plateau allowing for more moderate temperatures than the surrounding deserts. Currently the varietals grown here show heavy French influence as grapes like Cinsault, Carignon, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Mourvedre are common. Keep an eye out for native Lebanese grapes as they can produce extraordinarily unique wines of tremendous quality that are unlike anything else in the world.
