The wine region of Veneto is located in the North East of Italy surrounding the city of Venice. While there are many styles of wine made here perhaps the most noble is Amarone Della Valpolicella - a red wine made using partially dried Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes. The Garganega varietal is the one of the most popular white wine grapes in the region and goes into the wines of Soave. The cheerfully sparkling Prosecco wine comes from Veneto and is made from the Glera grape. Thanks to the nearby Alps the weather in Veneto is relatively mild and moderate. The cooler foothills are ideal for more delicate varietals such as Garganega while the warmer valleys and plains produce ripe and concentrated red wines. While there is certainly a great deal of bulk wine being produced in Veneto there are many producers of world-class quality found here as well.
