San Benito County is located on the Central Coast of California along the El Camino Real, between the Gabilan Mountains to its West and the Diablo Mountains to its East. The first grapes were planted in the region in the mid-1800’s by French and German immigrants and today there are around 3,000 acres here planted to vine. Wine coming out of San Benito County can be extremely high-quality and is considered one of the Centrals Coast's best kept secrets, although legendary San Benito producers like Calera have long received critical acclaim for their wines. While many unique microclimates exist, San Benito County has a relatively moderate climate as it is regularly blasted by maritime winds that pour over the mountains from the nearby Monterey Bay. This special geography allows for warm dry summers and cool wet winters which have proven ideal for the production of a wide variety of grapes.
