The Mendocino wine region is located in Mendocino County, California just north of Sonoma County in Northern California. Mendocino has two distinct climate zones that are divided by a coastal mountain range. West of the range the weather is cool with heavy fog and significant influence from the Pacific Ocean. East of the range it is warmer and drier as the mountains shield these valleys from the cold. As almost a natural extension of Sonoma County, Mendocino produces similarly styled wines to Sonoma except typically with a touch more acidity and finesse due to the slightly cooler climate. Expect to see everything from Cabernet Sauvignon to Pinot Noir grown here as individual microclimates can very greatly in temperature and sun exposure.
