The Czech Republic is well known for beer production, but great wine is made here too and has been for thousands of years! The most common grape varietals grown in the Czech Republic are Müller-Thurgau, Grüner Veltliner, and St. Laurent. The style of wine produced here is similar to that of its neighboring Austria with a heavy focus on white aeromatic varietals. Due to inclement weather many plantings are chosen for their disease resistance and ability to ripen during shorter, cooler seasons. Expect Czech bottlings to be lower alcohol, lighter wines that are heavily perfumed and show wonderful fruit and earthy complexity.
