2017 Fern Rock Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon - Yan Cellars
Black forest cherry, wild lavender, crème de cassis. Silky blackberry, cigar box, blueberry glaze. Black currant compote, licorice, and plum hauntingly converge with sage, violet, and sandalwood in magnificently fragrant and gorgeously feminine display. Deep and profound floral tones of dark roses and potpourri further enhance the ambrosial perfume as Cuban tobacco, incense, and cedar impart beautifully lifted natural charm. A light dusting of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove reveal a layer of pretty oak that is quickly enhanced by cardamom and a brilliant pinch of exotic spice. Beneath the expressive higher-toned registrars impressions of porous tufa and uplifted earth provide an intriguing element of terroir to complete the incredibly classic, authentic, and transparent presentation. Fresh, balanced, and pure on the palate; exhibiting impressively delicate power that is soft yet extremely serious. Medium plus in body with pronounced satin-like tannin backed by bright acidity. This 2017 Fern Rock Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon by Yan Cellars is a spectacularly elegant, complex, and compelling red from the Spring Mountain District of Napa Valley.
Located high up in the Mayacamas Mountains due west of Saint Helena, the Spring Mountain district is one of Napa Valley's most historic and prestigious mountain appellations. This bottling, crafted by Yan Cellars using Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the Fern Rock Vineyard, brilliantly showcases the tremendous depth, complexity, and finesse that the greatest Spring Mountain wines are uniquely capable of achieving. Although the weight and concentration of its fruit profile remains quite substantial this wine sets itself apart by its pronounced floral, herbal, and spiced characteristics. Aided by Spring Mountain's comparatively cool climate it is decidedly restrained and delicate compared to wines made in the modern "blockbuster" style, and this works to its advantage as its incredibly nuanced subtleties are allowed to truly shine. This is an age worthy and near-perfectly executed micro-production Cabernet shaped by an exciting new Napa Valley producer.
