2017 Wiley Vineyard Pinot Noir - Terragena Vineyard

Perfectly ripe red cherry, coastal redwood forest, fresh cranberry. Delicate strawberry, ground coriander, crushed pomegranate. Wonderfully weightless and ethereal wafts of raspberry, orange zest, and rhubarb highlight a delightfully delicate yet expressive fruit core rhythmically interlaced with hints of pine needle, ocean air, and exotic spice. Notes of cherry blossom, pink rose, and carnations gracefully emerge to provide whirls of dainty floral perfume genially met with a dusting of cardamom, clove, and cumin to further enhance aromatics. Integrated organic tones of forest floor and brown mushroom impart subtle yet seductive umami-tinged delight that perfectly overlaps with terroir-focused suggestions of marine-derived loam and briny saline minerality. Beguilingly expansive yet still restrained on the nose while coming across thoroughly soft, silky, and feminine on the palate; exhibiting outstanding typicity and expression of place presented with great transparency and unmanipulated authenticity. Medium in body with moderate tannin backed by bright acidity. This 2017 Wiley Vineyard Pinot Noir by Terragena Vineyard is a remarkably elegant and enticing red from the Anderson Valley.

Located in coastal Mendocino County mere miles from the cold Pacific Ocean, Anderson Valley is unequivocally one of California's most highly regarded and historic cool climate winegrowing zones. This bottling, crafted by Terragena Vineyard using Pinot Noir sourced from the Wiley Vineyard in the Anderson Valley's "deep end", brilliantly showcases the complexity and finesse this heralded region is capable of producing. Coming from a particularly cold site first planted in 1972, this wine effortlessly radiates pure and ethereal fruit and floral notes intertwined with clean forest tones, integrated spice, and fresh salinity. It is exceptionally complex and flavorful on both the nose and the palate while remaining quite subtle and delicate, stylishly showcasing Pinot Noir's more Burgundian side through the lens of incredible California terroir. Outstanding.
