2017 “Legend” Proprietary Red - Westwood Estate Wines

Rich açaí, new leather, blueberry liqueur. Silky dark plum, fresh mint, black cherry pie. An impressively opulent and seductive fruit core highlighted by crème de cassis, black licorice, and blackberry concentrate booms with incredible density and extraction as hints of crushed violet, dark rose, and iris overlay the scene with layers of rich floral perfume. Notes of pine needle, fresh mint, and basil gradually reveal interesting herbal underpinnings while suggestions of toasted coconut, espresso, and fudge provide gorgeous flecks of well integrated decadence. Aromatic impressions of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and vanilla shine brightly within a range of deeply expressive baking spices as iodine, tobacco, and smoke complete the dense yet surprisingly energetic display. Extraordinarily textural, bold, and voluptuous on the palate while still retaining nice freshness and verve; exhibiting an enticingly velvety mouthfeel that is simultaneously serious and sexy. Full bodied and brimming with big chewy tannin yet nicely balanced by slightly elevated acidity. This 2017 "Legend" Proprietary Red by Westwood Estate Wines is a deliciously plush and polished red from the Sonoma Valley.

Located along Sonoma County's eastern border just over the Mayacamas Mountains from Napa Valley, the Sonoma Valley is a historic high quality winegrowing region that is putting out a great deal of absolutely exceptional wine. This bottling, crafted by Westwood Estate Wines using 46% Cabernet Sauvignon/25% Syrah/19% Mourvèdre/10% Grenache sourced primarily from within the Sonoma Valley, wonderfully showcases the luxurious concentration and opulence this famed region is capable of producing. This wine fearlessly exudes gobs of sinfully rich and concentrated dark fruits alongside lush floral tones, clean herbs, baking spices, and dessert-like toasted oak. While certainly bold and modern in style this remains exceptionally well balanced thanks to a nice streak of acidity, and it is already drinking perfectly after just a short decant. Excellent.
