2015 Dry Creek Reserve Cabernet Franc - Viansa Sonoma

Viansa Cabernet Franc.jpg

Red licorice, fresh basil, strawberry compote. Fleshy dark cherry, pretty vanilla, candied red currant. Young rose and bougainvillea, manicured bramble and garden herbs. Raspberry filling and sugar plum highlight a succulent and structured attack blushing with sappy red flowers and perfume. Coffee grounds spill onto broken-in leather complemented by peppercorn and oak spice. Fruit-focused yet full of friendly herbaceousness mellowed out by nutmeg, cacao nibs, and parched earth. Nearly full bodied - wielding sizable tannin & balanced acidity and certainly showcasing a more modern style of the varietal. This 2015 Dry Creek Valley Reserve Cabernet Franc by Viansa Sonoma is delicious and decadent contemporary Cab Franc.

While Cabernet Sauvignon has become nearly ubiquitous across California's Napa and Sonoma Counties Cabernet Franc has quietly cemented a place for itself as a mainstay of these warm climate North Coast regions. It is a grape that can thrive in a variety of soils & climates and thus can be made into a plethora of uniquely styled wines. This bottling, crafted by Viansa Sonoma using Cab Franc sourced from Sonoma's Dry Creek Valley, is a lush and forward expression of the varietal. It exhibits nice ripeness of fruit and that is well integrated with savory pyrazines and shiny new oak. This is undoubtedly a Cab Sauv lover's Cab Franc that still manages to show just enough typicity to maintain authenticity. Very drinkable and squarely achieving its desired "yum factor", this well made wine is set up to be a solid crowd favorite.
