2018 Costa La Flor Sauvignon Blanc - Viña Koyle
Peach flesh, mint leaf, zingy grapefruit. Squeezed lemon, bright wildflowers, tart green apple. Fresh basil and sweet grass, wet concrete and flint. A citrus explosion blows past underripe orchard fruit, stopping briefly to visit an herb garden on its way to cold mineral springs. Refreshing and gluggable, exhibiting subtle cardamom and turmeric underneath energetic fruit. Finishes clean as notes of river stones subside to an electric acidic bite. This 2018 Costa La Flor Sauvignon Blanc by Viña Koyle is a fun and focused white from Chile's San Antonio Valley.
The Santa Antonio Valley is one of Chile's smallest and youngest wine regions. Located just south of the larger Casablanca Valley growing region, the San Antonio Valley has become a hot spot for artisanal producers due to its cool maritime climate and infertile granitic soils. This bottling, crafted by Viña Koyle using 100% organically grown Sauvignon Blanc from the San Antonio Valley, is a great example of the strength of the region. It beams with bright yet tart fruit, followed by balanced grassy and herbaceous tones, then finishes in clean refreshing minerality. Extended lees contact in tank has helped add complexity and the wine's crisp acidity is pronounced but not overwhelming. This is a delicious natural wine without any intimidating pretext, it's simply full of clean and yummy goodness. This was the fourth and final bottle we received as part of our first Raw Vino shipment and again we could not help but to be impressed.
