2016 Evangelho Vineyard Mataro - T-Vine Winery
Pulverized cherry, dried lavender, wild black raspberry. Fresh elderberry, white sage, spiced blueberry purée. Cactus flower and crushed rose petal, fallen pine needle and rosemary. Mulberry, strawberry, and red plum tenderly collide with sweet florals, clean forest tones, and sandy earth in a soft fruited and surprisingly aromatic attack. Prickly pear and thyme chime in to impose a slightly wild and thoroughly pretty herbal twist infused with nutmeg and cinnamon candy. Remarkably juicy, dainty, and delicate in character, expressing a beautifully feminine site of a variety often considered to be fierce and masculine. Medium in body with slightly elevated tannin and wonderful jolt of acidity. This 2016 Evangelho Vineyard Mataro by T-Vine Winery in an amazingly elegant, pure, and unique red from Contra Costa County.
Mataro, or Mourvèdre as it also commonly known, is a thick-skinned grape variety widely grown throughout Spain and Southern France. It thrives in warm arid climates and often produces bold and assertive wines of intense color and tannin. This bottling, crafted by T-Vine Winery using Mataro sourced from the legendary Evangelho Vineyard, is outstanding example of the subtlety, balance, and restraint this noble grape can achieve when grown in a special site. Deep sandy soils, dry farming, and old vines have converged in this unique corner of California to shape a wine of impressive purity and lift. It manages to flawlessly present juicy red, black, and blue fruit with tremendous freshness while still embracing textbook herbal complexity. This is an exceptionally unique and delicious offering that presents itself with admirable individuality and authenticity.
