2014 “Mario’s” Cabernet Sauvignon - Trinchero Napa Valley
Cool blackberry reduction, dried mint leaf, dark chocolate. Black forest cherry, burning tobacco, Damson plum skin. A deep, dark, and mysterious foundation prominently featuring ripe black currant, cassis, and blueberry crème brûlée converges emphatically with clean menthol and freshly brewed Columbian coffee. Crushed violet and wilted rose promptly emerge revealing a lightly floral edge complicated by unobtrusive impressions of mature eucalyptus grove. Notes of French vanilla, toffee, and pie crust materialize to expose perfectly restrained decadence while pulses of cast iron and volcanic rock announce impressively mysterious mineral tones. Simultaneously seductive and serious; graciously spilling captivating aromatics backed by incredible underlying tension, freshness, and structure. Full bodied with grippy yet relenting tannin and beautifully elevated acidity. This 2014 "Mario's" Cabernet Sauvignon by Trinchero Napa Valley is a contemplative and beguiling red from Napa's valley floor.
Considered by many to be one of the greatest places in the world to grow Cabernet, the floor of California's Napa Valley is home to a who's who of the USA's most legendary and iconic wineries. This bottling, crafted by Trinchero using Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from their estate vineyards on Napa's valley floor, is a wonderful example of the power and majesty this illustrious stretch of earth is capable of producing. While not shy in the slightest this wine possesses impressive subtly and restraint, somehow effortlessly marrying perfectly-ripe fruit with complex pyrazinc herbal charm and an extremely tasteful dollop of barrel spice. At 6 years of age its many layers are just barely starting to unfurl and yet are already extremely impressive to behold. An outstanding wine shaped by a wonderful producer.
