2019 Santa Rita Hills Chardonnay - Tread Wines

Ripe Meyer lemon, churned butter, sweet Georgia peach. Poached pear, sea spray, white nectarine. Surges of powerful yet delightfully poised fruit led by juicy pineapple, mango, and apple cobbler radiate with dense yet electric concentration as hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove provide a pleasant dusting of warm baking spices. Flecks of diatomaceous earth and salty minerality feistily emerge revealing gorgeous marine-influenced terroir that is not overwhelmed by opulent secondary notes of marshmallow, custard, and brioche. Wafts of blooming jasmine and honeysuckle impart a pretty yet pronounced floral overlay further complicated by subtle impressions of crushed straw and sawdust. Deliciously fruit forward, generous, and full on the nose while remaining quite clean, crisp, and snappy on the palate; exhibiting a bold yet beautiful presentation that comes across as simultaneously round yet radiant. Nearly full in body and carried by impressively elevated acidity. This 2019 Santa Rita Hills Chardonnay by Tread Wines is a rich yet well balanced white from Santa Barbara County.

Located just two hours north of Los Angeles at the southern edge of California's central coast, Santa Barbara County has emerged as one of the world's most diverse and dynamic wine regions thanks to its unique terroir that benefits from the influence of the nearby Pacific Ocean. This bottingly, crafted by Tread Wines using Chardonnay sourced from the famed Santa Rita Hills sub-appellation, brilliantly captures the combination of balanced ripeness and fresh coastal earthiness that Santa Barbara is known for. This wine boldy emits a range of ripe citrus, stone, and tropical fruits augmented by clean saline minerality, fragrant floral notes, integrated oak spice, and warm buttery undertones. Though it is unabashedly modern and new world in style this clearly expresses a distinct sense of place, and has the structure to hold up to medium term aging. Wonderful.
