2019 “Primera” Edna Ranch Vineyard Pinot Noir - Tolosa Winery

Plush dark cherry, ground coriander, rhubarb purée. Juicy blueberry, forest floor, cranberry preserves. An intriguingly lifted and layered display brimming with tart blackberry, strawberry, and orange zest booms with incredibly high toned and haunting charm as notes of crushed rose, potpourri, and hibiscus contribute pretty and highly aromatic floral perfume. Hints of pine needle and tree bark gently reveal understated organic character that is largely outshined by waves of cinnamon, clove, cumin, and pronounced exotic spices. Impressions of sea breeze and ocean fog playfully introduce clean coastal reflections that fade into streaks of delicate saline minerality. Strikingly expressive and ethereal on the nose while remaining smooth, soft, and silky on the palate; exhibiting an elegant and highly polished presentation that generously spills layer after layer of deep yet weightless fruit. Medium bodied with moderate tannin back by bright acidity. This 2019 "Primera" Edna Ranch Vineyard Pinot Noir by Tolosa Winery is a supple and seductive red from Edna Valley.

Although by measure it is one of the coldest winegrowing regions in the state of California, San Luis Obispo's Edna Valley has an uniquely long growing season that allows for its wines to achieve excellent ripeness alongside classic cool climate verve. This bottling, crafted by Tolosa Winery using a barrel selection of the best Pinot Noir grown at their estate Edna Ranch Vineyard in Edna Valley, is an outstanding example of the purity, precision, and plushness that this region's best wines can achieve. This currently youthful and largely primary creation elegantly radiates a medley of silky dark and red fruits enhanced by perfumed floral tones, complex barrel spices, and coastal earthiness. While currently still in its infancy this can be enjoyed today if desired, yet one would be best served waiting another 3-5 years before consuming to allow for further tertiary development. Exceptional.
