2018 Suisun Valley Sauvignon Blanc - Tolenas Vineyards & Winery

Tart passionfruit, smooth river stones, bitter lime peel. Ruby grapefruit, sour grass, gooseberry preserve. Blooming acacia and elderflower, dewy lawn and pungent shrubbery. Granny Smith apple, green mango, and lemon zest explode with loud pure-fruited intensity, remaining zingy and crisp while simultaneously appearing ripe and quite substantial. Intense florals waft over the tart and bone dry attack providing nice lift and aromatics. Cold granite and shiny stainless steel keep the situation grounded on the finish as rocky minerality asserts its textured dominance. Clean, refreshing, and packed with plenty of zip; medium in body and high in acidity. This 2018 Suisun Valley Sauvignon Blanc by Tolenas Vineyards & Winery is a well made and delicious white from Napa's neighbor to the east.

Located due east of Napa Valley just over the Vaca Mountains, the Suisun Valley has established itself as a high quality growing region for primarily red wine grapes. This bottling, crafted by Tolenas Vineyards & Winery using Sauvignon Blanc sourced from within the Suisun Valley, proves that white wine grapes also have great potential in this region. This well-executed wine marries the zingy and intense nature of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc with the riper rounder character often found in Napa wines, and manages to maintain great freshness and drive throughout. A nice mineral undercurrent and just a touch of herbal bitterness bring this together with nice complexity, and on the finish it remains both interesting and refreshing. Good stuff again here by Tolenas.
