2019 Estate Sauvignon Blanc - Tolenas Vineyards & Winery
White grapefruit, mint leaf, ripe green apple. Asian pear, elderflower, tart passion fruit. Beautifully electric and expressive pulses of green mango, lime juice, and white peach undulate with fresh and energetic fervor as hints of orange blossom and jasmine complicate aromatics with a range of delicate floral overtones. Intriguing grassy and herbal notes of fresh basil and mowed lawn make their presence felt in a beautiful pyrazinic parade that playfully enhances the ripe yet pleasantly tart fruit. Interesting impressions of gravel and stoney minerality unite with mild salinity to round out the attack via a streak of clean earthiness. Delightfully dry, vibrant, and pure-fruited on the palate within a profile that is simultaneously forward yet delicate; exhibiting wonderfully refreshing crispness and bite while remaining dainty yet not the slightest bit shy. Medium plus in body and carried by perfectly elevated acidity. This 2019 Estate Sauvignon Blanc by Tolenas Vineyards & Winery is a wonderfully pretty and thirst-quenching white from the Suisun Valley.
Located directly east of Napa Valley along the eastern foothills of the Vaca Mountains, the Suisun Valley is an exceptional yet largely underappreciated winegrowing region that is putting out a great deal of high quality wine. This bottling, crafted by Tolenas Vineyards & Winery using Sauvignon Blanc sourced from their Suisun Valley estate, wonderfully captures the character of this grape in a warm yet marine-influenced region. This wine playfully sings in the glass with bright citrus, tropical, and stone fruits that are expressive and thoroughly energetic, and it backs this fruit with light grassiness and nice mineral undertones. It is well made, well balanced, and well executed; and will make a perfect sipper this spring as the weather warms.
