2015 “Lead Vocals” Old Vines Bien Nacido Vineyard Pinot Noir - Timbre Winery
Earthy Bing Cherry, forest floor, spiced strawberry. Orange peel, crushed pine needle, rhubarb pie. Cranberry compote, raspberry purée, and tart pomegranate intricately converge with lavender, turned earth, and Santa Maria dry rub in a high toned and widely aromatic display. Delicate notes of bramble, sage, and thyme bring a captivating herbal edge to bolster the expansive bouquet while sauteed mushroom and green olive impart umami-rich organic delight. A generous dousing of allspice, cardamom, cinnamon, and clove highlight an entire spice rack's worth of lifted complexity while impressions of ocean air, shale, and saline minerality reveal beguiling marine-influenced terroir. Impressively silky yet ethereal on the palate; exhibiting delicate concentration, flawless balance, and incredible depth demonstrated with tremendous authenticity and pedigree. Medium in body with moderate tannin and beautifully elevated acidity. This 2015 "Lead Vocals" Old Vines Bien Nacido Vineyard Pinot Noir by Timbre Winery is an exceptionally expressive and enchanting red from the Santa Maria Valley.
Dramatically tucked into a crease in the San Rafael Mountains near the northern limits of Santa Barbara County, the Bien Nacido Vineyard was planted in 1973 and is considered by many to be one of the greatest cool climate viticultural sites in the entire USA. This bottling, crafted by Timbre Winery using Pinot Noir sourced from Bien Nacido's older vines, masterfully captures the world class character of this absolutely legendary vineyard. While it possesses no shortage of gorgeous albeit somewhat rich and concentrated fruit, this wine's story is nearly wholly defined by the complexity of its non-fruit components. It practically erupts from the glass with a medley of textbook Santa Maria's spices supported by captivating notes of fresh herbs, earth, and sea. This is an exciting and outstanding representation of one of California's greatest and most iconic vineyard sites.
