2020 “Boys Cry” Carbonic White Wine - Tank Garage Winery

Ripe apricot, fresh honeysuckle, dried pineapple chunks. Dehydrated mango slice, banana leaf, juicy lemon flesh. Powerful waves of lush and deeply layered fruit highlighted by peach skin, grapefruit zest, and Mexican papaya crash in with bold and thoroughly intriguing complexity as mild hints of garden sage and basil impart delicate bits of herbal charm. Pronounced wafts of apple blossom, orange oil, and plumeria lead a charge of highly fragrant aromatics to build upon the core of concentrated yet whimsical fruit. Suggestions of cinnamon, raw honey, and toasted brown sugar provide just a pinch of spiced decadence as subtle notes of loamy soil simultaneously expose faint underlying earthiness. Terrifically expressive and outgoing on the nose while coming across as tart, dry, and playful on the palate; exhibiting an unexpected and delightfully unique presentation that is beautifully textured and downright delicious. Medium plus in body with very delicate tannin kept fresh by moderate acidity. This 2020 "Boys Cry" Carbonic White Wine by Tank Garage Winery is an unconventional yet extremely fun white from El Dorado County.

Though it is traditionally used almost exclusively to produce red wine, Carbonic Maceration is a unique fermentation technique that can facilitate the creation of extremely interesting white wine if executed properly. This bottling, crafted by Tank Garage Winery using a blend of 43% Roussanne/32% Vermentino/25% Petit Manseng sourced from El Dorado County within California's Sierra Foothills, beautifully showcases an exciting expression of a rarely seen wine style. In typical Carbonic fashion this wine booms with a range of lush primary flavors including tropical and stone fruits, aromatic flowers, fresh herbs, and just a pinch of spice. Thanks to the skins and seeds remaining in contact with the juice during fermentation this also boasts delicious textural richness and layers not often seen in a traditional white wine. This is far from typical yet so much fun to experience.
