2018 Estate Chardonnay - Talley Vineyards
Lemon curd, crushed sea salt, ripe cantaloupe. Orange marmalade, fragrant honeysuckle, juicy Bosc pear. Fresh pineapple and crisp golden apple highlight a ripe and concentrated yet nervy fruit core aromatically enhanced by vanilla extract, yogurt, and a wave of clean salinity. California jasmine emerges to bolster lifted floral tones while clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon impart a dusting of decadent baking spice. Impressions of fluffy sawdust and cream provide a glimpse of cellar technique before calcareous rock and whole chalk reveal a terrifically mineral undercurrent. Nicely round and substantial in weight yet still quite edgy and earthy; exhibiting excellent typicity and an authentic presentation of place. Medium plus in body with elevated acidity. This 2018 Estate Chardonnay by Talley Vineyards is a bright, juicy, and terroir expressive white from the Arroyo Grande Valley.
Located just miles from the coast in scenic San Luis Obispo County, the Arroyo Grande Valley is home to some of California's most interesting and exciting cool climate viticulture. This bottling, crafted by Talley Vineyards using Chardonnay sourced from their estate vineyards in the Arroyo Grande Valley, brilliantly represents the strengths of this region's unique world class terroir. While it contains a ripe and relatively generous fruit profile seasoned with a tasteful pinch of oak, this wine is defined far more by its complex reflections of chalky marine-influenced soils and wonderful saline minerality. This is simply a classic and delicious central-coast Chardonnay sans any unnecessary poking and prodding, and has been an absolute pleasure to taste and experience. Well done.
