2014 "Infinity on its Side" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon - Staura Cellars
Black plum, muddled mint, dried elderberry. Black currant, fresh violet, dark roast coffee. Wet hay and driftwood, sugar cookie and crushed vanilla bean. Well-built and complex with menthol and anise running just above deep dense fruit, cigar box, and cocoa powder. Like dark chocolate and dried tobacco dusted over fresh black cherry & mulberry mash. This 2014 "Infinity on its Side" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon by Staura Cellars is expertly crafted Cab by a producer you probably haven't tried yet.
Staura Cellars is a small boutique winery run by Steve and Laura Durie out of Napa California. The project was born only a few years ago by this husband and wife team out of a mutual love for wine and a desire to build something together. Staura Cellars sources fruit for their wines from various high quality vineyards throughout the state. This fruit used for this bottling, composed of 92% Cab Sauv along with a bit of Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot, came primarily from the Six Acre Vineyard owned by O’Shaughnessy in Napa's prestigious Oakville AVA. The pedigree here shines through as the finished wine is heady, complex, and fearless without coming across as overly jammy, ripe, or saturated. While you might not have tried the wines of Staura Cellars yet we think it's about time you should.
