2016 Spring Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir - Sosie Wines

Juicy dark cherry, tree bark, spiced cranberry. Wild mulberry, brambly undergrowth, crushed whole pomegranate. Morel mushroom and green olive, applewood smoke and cooked game. Muddled raspberry, cinnamon sprinkled strawberry, and rhubarb pie filling form a core of dense and ripe fruit that perseveres amidst fresh forest, earthy loam, and stem tones. Iris and dirty violet complement a hint of raw and pretty florals before relenting to keemun tea and cured pelt. Nutmeg, clove, and cardamom highlight a melange of oak and baking spices revealed as a subtlety of the concentrated yet expansive bouquet. Medium plus in both body and acidity; finishing with mild yet lingering ash-textured tannin. This 2016 Spring Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir by Sosie Wines is a beautifully complex and gorgeously balanced Sonoma Coast Pinot.

The Spring Hill Vineyard sits on a cold and wind-blown site located just west of Petaluma about 7 miles from the Pacific Ocean. It lies inside the newly delineated Petaluma Gap AVA that exists within the larger Sonoma Coast appellation and was officially approved and established in 2017. Spring Hill is planted to 20 acres of strictly Pinot Noir and has garnered a reputation for producing extremely low-yields of intensely concentrated and complex fruit. This bottling, crafted by Sosie Wines using 100% Pinot Noir all sourced from the Spring Hill Vineyard, is a tremendously compelling example of what this marginal and difficult region can produce. This wine possesses plenty of bright California-concentration yet manages to remain quite lifted and elegant. It writhes with terrifically Burgundian secondary and tertiary character that balances wonderfully with the substantial fruit. This is classic yet modern Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir showing terrific stylistic execution and loads of potential for further development.
