2013 Singlefile Vineyard Family Reserve Chardonnay - Singlefile Wines
Dried lemon peel, struck match, baked apple. Poached pear, crunchy straw, petite tangerine. Crushed nutmeg and thyme, magnolias and white Easter lilies. Expressive fruit booms with lean power, emitting essences of grilled peach and pineapple juice without the corresponding weight or viscosity. Gun flint underscores restrained decadence providing a tense reductive edge to complicate the presentation. Energetic while showing some development, revealing raw dough and cornmeal behind pretty vanilla and clove. Altogether gorgeous and remarkably composed. This 2013 Singlefile Vineyard Family Reserve Chardonnay by Singlefile Wines is a brilliantly Burgundian white from the coast of Western Australia.
Singlefile Wines operates out of the tiny coastal town of Denmark located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. This off-the-beaten-path fishing village is a 5 hour drive southeast from Perth and a 4 hour drive from the well known Margaret River. Thanks to its proximity to the ocean, summer temperatures here stay relatively moderate and it has proven a fantastic zone for growing cool-climate wine grapes. This bottling, crafted by Singlefile Wines from their estate vineyard in Denmark, is an extremely compelling example of the potential of the region. Reminiscent of modern slightly-amplified Puligny-Montrachet, this wine is complex and explosive yet balanced and bright. Some bottle age has worked to its benefit as acidity has integrated into the medium bodied yet remarkably complex frame. This exhibits top-notch winemaking in addition to beautiful fruit, as defined reductive tones play perfectly into the stylistic direction. Extremely impressive and worth seeking out.
