2014 Frankland River Cabernet Sauvignon - Singlefile Wines

Singlefile Cabernet Sauvignon.jpg

Pure black currant, eucalyptus leaf, silky cassis. Dark cherry puree, cigar smoke, boysenberry filling. Dried violet and lilac, smooth pencil lead and Earl Grey tea. Crunchy blackberry, roasted tobacco, and cool menthol highlight a hauntingly complex yet restrained attack coursing with gorgeous graphite and wet stone minerality. Cedar, clove, and baking spice point to delicately understated oak that is perfectly integrated with the surrounding display. Beautifully textured and terrifically structured showcasing mouth-filling crushed velvet tannin and tremendous acidity inside a medium plus bodied frame. Classic, elegant, and cerebral, presenting a sense of intricacy and luscious tartness more reminiscent of left bank Bordeaux than any new world locale. This 2014 Frankland River Cabernet Sauvignon by Singlefile Wines is an absolutely outstanding single vineyard red from Western Australia.

The Frankland River is a unique winegrowing appellation located within the Great Southern region of Western Australia. Vineyards here experience a moderate Mediterranean climate and see measurable cooling influences both from the nearby ocean as well as the area's slightly heightened elevation. Soils are primarily alluvial with significant concentrations of gravel and clay. This bottling, crafted by Singlefile Wines using 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the Riversdale Vineyard, is an amazing achievement from this remarkable region. This wine is dignified and graceful - refusing to sell out towards modern opulence - and it presents itself with tremendous poise and finesse. Barely ripe black fruit and and even a touch of red fruit don't seek to dominate but merely play their part in this multifaceted and terroir expressive triumph. The balance and completeness here are impressive. Absolutely spectacular.
