2018 Waipara Valley Sauvignon Blanc - Sherwood Estate Wines

Intense gooseberry, sour grass, grapefruit peel. Underripe green pear, new garden hose, pure lemon juice. Tart candy and citrus blossom, granny smith apple and fresh squeezed lemonade. Extremely pungent and sharp aromatics of fruit-laden feline urine are followed by subtle tingly minerality on the palate. Oozing enamel melting tongue burning acidity on par with biting into a giant lemon wedge. This 2018 Waipara Valley Sauvignon Blanc by Sherwood Estate Wines is super young and super mighty New Zealand Sauv Blanc.

Sauvignon Blanc comes in many different shapes and sizes. From the big oaky Fumé Blancs of Napa to the intensely mineral mouthful of rocks in Sancerre this varietal can meld into seemingly endless forms. This bottling, crafted by Sherwood Estate Wines using Sauv Blanc grapes from the Waipara Valley sub-region of New Zealand, is one of the most intensely fruit driven acid packed bottlings we have experienced. At less than a year old this wine has had no time to develop or resolve. It is completely forward and primary providing the sensation of stuffing your mouth full of sour green grapes and chomping down with a single powerful bite. Intense is an understatement here and this stuff would catch you completely off guard if you were not expecting it. With that said this wine is FUN. If you are into high intensity full throttle acid then grab a bottle of this and drink it immediately. While a few more years of age will certainly help to tame this beast we had a blast diving into this one head first.
