2016 Sonoma coast Pinot Noir - Sangiacomo Family Wines
Ripe bing cherry, fresh violet, macerated raspberry. Juicy strawberry, undergrowth, reduced pomegranate. Springy moss and tree bark, nutmeg and earthy spice. An expansive fruit bouquet bursts with fresh loganberry and rhubarb preserve, complemented by blooming iris and sauteed mushroom. Clove and cardamom muddle with dried root spice and wild herbs to create beautiful earthy complexity behind the gorgeous fruit. Medium plus in body with medium tannin and bright acidity, suggesting soils of clay loam and perhaps a touch of whole cluster. Slightly forward yet delightfully restrained showing off California sunshine and beautiful Pinot typicity. This 2016 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir by Sangiacomo Family Wines is perfectly balanced and expertly crafted.

As one of the largest winegrowers in Sonoma County the Sangiacomo family produces to some of the most coveted cool-climate fruit in all of California. Recently they decided to start bottling wine under their own label and the results are more than impressive. The family contracted the services of local superstar winemaker James MacPhail, and James has worked his magic to create a spectacular lineup. This bottling, crafted using 100% Pinot Noir from 3 unique vineyards within the Sonoma Coast appellation, is a wonderful triumph. It exudes the sexy and decadent fruit that has made Sonoma County Pinot Noir so famous, yet it manages to remain modest without neglecting the foresty earthy funk that makes classic Pinot lovers swoon. Precisely executed and technically magnificent, this wine will impress nearly all camps. This stuff wowed us and is on par with the best in the appellation.
