2014 Brut Cuvée - Sanford Winery

Underripe pear, apple scone, lemon meringue. Wild daisy, pie crust, a touch of key lime. Dusty with a light crusting of mineral salinity and garnished with a sprig of parsley. Wonderful zip and zest. This 2014 Sanford Estate Brut Cuvée is a California sparkling that isn't pretending.

Utilizing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sourced from its estate vineyards of Sanford & Benedict and La Rinconada, Sanford Winery has crafted this Brut Cuvée to perfectly express the area's unique terroir. Their house style of restrained fruit, the expression of complex maritime soils, and driving acidity naturally lends itself to creating a beautiful and balanced sparkling wine. The best part is that despite being produced in "Methode Champenoise" this wine is not trying to be Champagne. Rather it is a unique expression of the cool coastal California climate that the fruit is grown in - and the wine is stronger for it. This wine proves that pursuing the best expression of oneself is better by far than struggling to create a copy.
