2013 Sanford & Benedict  Pinot Noir - Sanford Winery

Lush cranberry, dried violet, crushed clove. Fresh raspberry, baking spices, and a touch of red licorice. Briny salty deliciousness hinting back to soils of clay and diatomaceous shale. Weightless yet expansive with a wonderful backbone of refreshing acidity. This 2013 Sanford & Benedict Pinot Noir by Sanford Winery is Santa Rita Hills Pinot perfection.

The Sanford & Benedict Vineyard was originally planted in 1971 by Richard Sanford and Michael Benedict. It was the first Pinot Noir vineyard planted in Santa Barbara County and quickly became the archetype for what is now one of the most unique and progressive growing regions in the world. Now almost 50 years old the vines produce deep, rich, balanced wines that wonderfully express the influence of the maritime soils and climate of Santa Rita Hills. This is absolutely a reference point wine for this prestigious and scenic locale. This is what new world Pinot Noir should aspire to be.
