2016 Sancerre - Vincent Gaudry

Yellow cherry, cool flint, grapefruit skin. Gooseberry, fresh parsley, cucumber & mint. Tart yellow plum, white lilies, underripe green pear. Ultra-fresh acidity and this intense sensation of cold dry rock. Like waking up before dawn while camping in the mountains to sit on a big cold boulder & snack on a Fuji apple. This 2016 "Constellation of Scorpion" Sancerre by Vincent Gaudry is everything Sauvignon Blanc should be.

Sancerre is a very special appellation in the Loire Valley. It is here that Sauvignon Blanc arguably reaches its fullest and most complete expression. The wines from this region are rich, terroir driven, and have a beautiful zing to them that does not strain the palate. They provide absolute refreshment yet are somehow endlessly complex and introspective. This wine, grown & produced by boutique Loire producer Vincent Gaudry, is made from the single best block in his vineyard. It is the perfect remedy for a hot day in Paris when stuck in a flat with no AC. While this wine is probably not heavily distributed or readily available in most places, it is absolutely delicious and worth seeking out if it can be found.
