2019 Crystal Springs Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc - Salvestrin Winery
Grapefruit zest, muddled mint, squeezed lime. Fresh passionfruit, white carnations, underripe green pear. A delightfully tart and lively presentation highlighted by gooseberry, green apple, and lemon pith sings with notable precision and purity as hints of fresh cucumber, sawgrass, and garden herbs provide a range of subtle yet captivating green undercurrents. Notes of jasmine and elderflower gracefully emerge within a series of well integrated floral tones that dance above the bright, clean, and energetic display. An intriguing impression of almond skin gently presents itself within a lightly bitter edge that fades into wonderful earthy tones of crushed gravel and stoney minerality. Beautifully youthful, refreshing, and restrained on the palate while simultaneously remaining impressively poised and polished; exhibiting a classic citrus-driven attack that is straightforward yet perfectly delicious. Barely medium in body and carried by a streak of bright acidity. This 2019 Crystal Springs Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc by Salvestrin Winery is a well made and deliciously textbook white from St. Helena.
Though Chardonnay is by far the most widely planted white grape in Napa Valley, Sauvignon Blanc has achieved great success in the region and often grows best at warmer valley floor sites where Chardonnay would struggle. This bottling, crafted by Salvestrin Winery using Sauvignon Blanc sourced from the Crystal Springs Vineyard in St. Helena, beautifully showcases the tremendous energy and freshness great Napa Sauvignon Blanc can achieve. Crafted in a bright and refreshing style, this wine gleefully emits crisp citrus-led fruit backed by clean greens, soft floral tones, and exciting minerality. Though it shows some fullness reflective of its warmer vineyard site, this wine maintains excellent balance and restraint with a level of drinkability that begs for its corked to be popped right away. Very nice.
