2016 Eola-Amity Hills “Roserock” Chardonnay - Domaine Drouhin Oregon

Fresh Meyer lemon, soft clove, white nectarine. Asian pear, crushed rock, sliced cantaloupe. Citrus zest, pineapple core, and tart yellow apple unite with honeysuckle and delicate baking spices in a remarkably pure fruited and energetic bouquet. Peach blossom and white flowers continue the delicate foral thread while subtle tones of vanilla and raw dough impart just a hint of rounding complexity. On the palate behind the elegant yet spirited fruit lightly flinty minerality and mild salinity lay in waiting, leaving a decidedly crisp and lively impression characterized by both finesse and electricity. Tart, bright, and vibrant; showcasing tremendous poise and pedigree together with outstanding freshness and verve. Medium in body with elevated acidity and near-perfect balance. This 2016 Eola-Amity Hills "Roserock" Chardonnay by Domaine Drouhin Oregon is an incredibly classic and delicious Willamette Valley white.

Though it may be a relatively new genre to emerge to international fame, Willamette Valley Chardonnay has in just a short time established itself as a worthy adversary to many of the world's greatest Chardonnay producing zones. This bottling, crafted by Domaine Drouhin Oregon using Chardonnay sourced from their Roserock estate in the Eola-Amity Hills, is a beautifully archetypal example of what this cool climate region is capable of. It is clearly focused on freshness and precision over ripeness or weight and manages to express incredible purity of both varietal character and terroir. While it has seen some time in barrel the oak treatment here is not obtrusive, rather it adds just a hint of softness to a wine practically vibrating with energetic tension. An exceptional offering by one of Oregon's most noble producers.
