Ripe strawberry, crumbled soil, seasoned warm cherry. Mirabelle plum, tiny mushrooms, sappy pomegranate. Lavender essence and saffron, white pepper and allspice. Wild raspberry and cranberry concentrate sets the tone in a soft and expansive bouquet brimming with notes of nutmeg, vanilla, fennel, and stems. Medium plus in body with matching acidity driving a warming earth-focused palate. This 2015 Garey Vineyard Pinot Noir by Rideau Vineyard is quintessential Santa Maria Valley Pinot.

Santa Barbara County has risen to fame for the high quality Pinot Noir being produced within its borders. While great Pinot can be grown throughout the county there are certain very distinct microclimates that have warranted their own special acclaim. The Santa Maria Valley appellation is one of the two most popular Pinot growing zones in Santa Barbara, and is home to some of the region's most famous vineyards. This bottling, crafted by Rideau Vineyard using fruit from the Garey Vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley, is a great example of this area's unique terroir. While certainly packed full of voluminous fruit this wine is driven by natural tones of earthy spice and tree bark. Root vegetables and licorice make their presence known as baking spices and oak notes drive the party home. Santa Maria Pinot tends to express softer fruit and bit more forest floor than examples from nearby Santa Rita Hills, and this bottle exhibits that wonderfully.
