2016 Finger Lakes Riesling - Ravines Wine Cellars

Lime peel, peach blossom, white nectarine. Underripe green pear, new garden hose, cantaloupe rind. Lemon grass and baby's-breath, candied ginger and dried honeycomb. Peach puree and under ripe kiwi twinkle brightly, eventually slowly succumbing to to diluted kerosene and delicious Riesling funk. Frozen gravel minerality grips tightly to intense acidity without fading in the slightest during the minute-long finish. Not bone dry but far from sweet, presenting just enough residual sugar to keep the searing acid at bay. This 2016 Finger Lakes Riesling by Ravine Wine Cellars is a masterful high energy delight from New York State.

The Finger Lakes appellation of New York State is one of the premier winegrowing regions on the east coast of the United States. This cool-climate growing zone centers around a string of eleven deep glacial lakes that help moderate the area's otherwise unforgiving climate. Often compared to Germany's Rheingau, the Finger Lakes consistently produces some of the most compelling examples of Riesling from any state. This bottling, crafted by Ravines Wine Cellars using 100% Finger Lakes Riesling, is an absolutely marvelous wine. It is well made and well balanced, showing tremendous poise amidst it's high energy. Light bodied yet broad in the mouth, this is refreshing like a dip in a cold lake yet complex and mineral to its core. This stuff is laser focused and full of life and will make you an instant fan of New York wine. Extremely impressive.
