2017 White Springs Vineyard Riesling - Ravines Wine Cellars
Fresh squeezed lime, wet stone, juicy white peach. Crunchy Anjou pear, acacia blossom, ripe grapefruit. Flower pollen and subtle mint, polished steel and gravely minerals. Tart, tense, and zingy fruit pierces with aromatic and structural intensity, hitting hard with blasts of laser-like citrus and green apple flesh. Peach blossom and petrol combine in a hauntingly complex display that exposes notes of kerosene as it warms in the glass. Dry - but not bone dry - showcasing glacial minerality, extreme energy, booming acidity, and wonderful crispness within its modestly medium body. Absolutely flawless typicity. This 2017 White Springs Vineyard Riesling by Ravines Wine Cellars is a seriously impressive aromatic white from New York's Finger Lakes.
Riesling is perhaps the world's most noble aromatic white grape variety and has largely built its success in extremely cold regions where few other varieties can survive. This bottling, crafted by Ravines Wine Cellars using Riesling sourced from a single vineyard in the Finger Lakes appellation of New York State, is another terrific example of the heights this grape can achieve when planted in marginal northern regions. This wine is bright and edgy, effortlessly showing off the powerful vitality and verve Riesling is famous for without any excess size, weight, or alcohol. While its crispness and pure refreshment are a joy to experience now this should age marvelously and continue to develop increasingly complex honeyed and petrol aromas with time. This is an excellent bottle of Riesling on par with the best examples produced in the USA.
