2017 Terra Alta Vineyard Albariño - Ragbag Wine Works

Peeled green apple, celery salt, limoncello. Underripe honeydew, baby's-breath, crunchy green pear. Soft delicate florals and white pepper, ocean rocks and dried seaweed. Zesty energetic citrus clashes with tart orchard fruit infused with crisp clean salinity. Medium bodied featuring pronounced acidity and a complex terpene driven edginess. This 2017 Terra Alta Vineyard Albariño by Ragbag Wine Works is an expressive take on one of Spain's most famous whites.

Albariño is a unique white wine grape most notably produced in the region of Rias Baixas in western Spain. It has grown tremendously in popularity in recent years and plantings of it have begun popping up all over the world. Thanks to its ability to thrive in heat Albariño has done particularly well in many parts of California. This bottling, sourced from the Terra Alta Vineyard in Lodi California, is an impressive achievement. It is lively yet introspective exhibiting an intense and almost aromatic bouquet. Telltale salinity is present throughout and combines with a tinge of clean greenness to create a layered sensation on the palate. This stuff remains relaxed enough to sip by the pool yet is able to stand up to the strictest of technical scrutiny. It has definitely impressed us. If you're not drinking Albariño it's about time you got started.
