NV Brut Reserve - Pol Roger

Pot Roger Champagne.jpg

Lemon zest, raw sourdough, salted yellow apple. Asian pear, crushed limestone, ripe cantaloupe melon. Dried straw and pine needle, plain yogurt and fresh biscuit. Rainier cherry, peach pit, and dried citrus peel lead a full and expansive yet beautifully bright and crisp attack rife with bready leesiness and pronounced minerality. Clean jasmine slowly emerges to impart a dash of pretty floral perfume that plays brilliantly into surprisingly high-toned and lifted aromatics. Superbly balanced and quite broad on the palate, exuding intense energy and drive to combat its generously chalk-laden mouth-filling texture. Slightly more than light in body while high in acidity with a profile that is simultaneously youthful yet developed and cerebral yet delicious. This NV Brut Reserve by Pol Roger is a brilliantly complex and expertly blended Champagne from an always classic and impressive house.

Although there is never a bad time to drink Champagne, celebrating the new year is the one occasion that absolutely demands an endless supply of quality sparkling wine. This bottling, crafted by Paul Roger using a near-even blend of Pinot Noir, Meunier, and Chardonnay sourced from vineyards around Champagne, is an excellent choice to pop and enjoy when toasting to what has passed and is to come. While on the fuller and more expansive side this wine contains impressive focus and refinement with a fine persistent mousse that seems to never quit. It is quite dry and tart yet more than adequately ripe without any shortage of substance or flair. An outstanding entry level wine that makes a perfect accompaniment to ring in 2020.
