2012 POMMARD - Joseph Drouhin
Cherry pit, aged cedar, crisp snappy blackberry. Savory animale & mirabelle plum. Completely terrior driven and beaming with bursts of limestone and iron-rich clay. Powerful, weightless, gamey, with a beautiful tinge of pure fruit. We wanted a reference point Burgundy before heading up to California's Pinot country and we think we picked the perfect bottle. This 2012 Joseph Drouhin Pommard is complex, introspective, and delicious.
The village of Pommard has long had a reputation of being one of the premier growing areas for red wine in Burgundy's Cote de Beaune. Powerful, rich, and structured Pinot Noir with wonderful fruit and earthiness has long been a trademark here. This bottling, crafted by producer Maison Joseph Drouhin, is a beautiful and intellectual village level wine that can be sipped and savored. As much as we enjoy new world Pinot Noir it is hard to beat good red Burgundy.
