NV Extra Brut Rosé - Champagne Ployez-Jacquemart

Young strawberry, cherry blossom, tart raspberry. Underripe peach, whole chalk, crunchy anjou pear. Rosemary sprig and fresh thyme, baked croissant and yeast. Expansive and tart muddled cranberry and Rainier cherry leads a charge into prominent earth and autolytic notes. Crushed oyster shell zings past soft diatomaceous powder alongside French pastries straight from the oven. Parchingly dry and texturally magnificent with focus and drive not suitable for the faint of heart. This NV Extra Brut Rosé by Champagne Ployez-Jacquemart is gorgeous terroir driven bubbly.

Ployez-Jacquemart is a small family owned Champagne house founded in 1930. They are based out of the Premier Cru village of Ludes in the Montagne de Reims and are currently led by third-generation winemaker Laurence Ployez. In total the Ployez-Jacquemart team farms about 5 acres of their own Pinot Noir & Meunier vines in Ludes and Mailly-Champagne, and they also buy Chardonnay fruit from elsewhere to round out their blends. This bottling, crafted from a blend of 50% Chardonnay, 37% Pinot Noir, & 13% Meunier and given a low dosage, is a remarkable small-production Champagne. Initially bursting with jubilant fruit this wine quickly shifts to chalky minerality and savory lees tones. Its dryness works to its advantage and combines with refreshingly high acidity to create a scintillating mouth feel. This is great wine at a tremendous value, and proves that sometimes looking past the biggest Champagne houses can yield terrific results.
