2016 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc - Patland Estate Vineyards
Juicy passionfruit, freshly cut grass, candied lime. Caramelized peach, macadamia nut, navel orange. A high energy burst of guava, lemon drop, and poached green apple highlights a ripe and round yet tart and edgy attack aromatically enhanced by sugar cookie, wood smoke, and black currant bud. Powerful wafts of elderflower and honeysuckle expose a decadent floral overlay as fragrance is further bolstered by roasted vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a blast of expressive baking spice. Complicating notes of spearmint, asparagus, and gooseberry reveal an underlying green thread offset by sumptuous impressions of toffee, graham cracker, toasted marshmallow, and white chocolate. Noticeably substantial and concentrated on the palate yet fleshed out with nice crispness and bite; exhibiting an interesting hybrid of styles featuring smoky oak notes presented alongside intensely citrusy mineral zip. Full bodied and soft yet tightened and supported by gorgeously elevated acidity. This 2016 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc by Patland Estate Vineyards is an energetic, opulent, and unique Napa white.
As a grape that can succeed when grown in a number of climates and soil types in regions all over the world, Sauvignon Blanc is often made in a widely defined spectrum of distinct and delicious styles. This bottling, crafted by Patland Estate Vineyards using Sauvignon Blanc sourced from the Heritage Vineyard in Rutherford and the Ink Grade Vineyard in Howell Mountain, presents an incredible picture of this variety's range captured and expressed in a singular wine. It begins with a broad fruit profile that fluctuates from ripe tropical decadence to crisp citrusy tartness, and it follows that up with a blast of fresh greens, succulent flowers, and well-toasted oak. This is well executed and balanced with ample amounts of both power and finesse. Excellent.
