2018 "Lillá in Fiore" Rosé - Patland Estate Vineyards
Ripe raspberry, pink peonies, sweet juicy watermelon. Strawberry kiwi, mint leaf, squeezed blood orange. Boisterous notes of grenadine, cranberry-apple juice, and cherry slushie erupt with lush decadence in an assertive and remarkably muscular attack. An ambrosial bouquet of sweet-smelling flowers further bolsters the fruit-driven succulence aided by complicating hints of white pepper and sea salt. Clean and dry yet quite round on the palate with subtle gravely minerality serving to somewhat level out the glycerin-rich textural experience. Full bodied and fleshy with light tannin and nicely elevated acidity. This 2018 "Lillá in Fiore" Rosé by Patland Estate Vineyards is a powerful, plush, and muscular Rosé from Napa Valley.
While most rosés found lining store shelves tend to be light in both color and concentration, select producers in regions around the world are embracing a more full-throttle style of pink wine. This bottling, crafted by Patland Estate Vineyards using a blend of near equal parts Tempranillo and Syrah sourced from within Napa Valley, showcases rosé at its boldest and most audacious. Made in a style reminiscent of the wines of Tavel in Southern France, this wine absolutely gushes oodles of saturated red fruit complemented by sweet florals and just a hint of complicating spice. It is rich and mouth-filling yet still manages nice refreshment thanks to a streak of balancing acidity. This is a red wine drinker's rosé - if there ever was one - that exhibits a unique divergence from the popular Provençal style.
