2019 SJR Vineyard Syrah - Pášxa Wines
Tart boysenberry, garden sage, dark cherry pit. Wild blueberry, cracked peppercorn, blackberry purée. An exceptionally concentrated yet vibrant display of black currant, raspberry, and licorice broods with layered yet lively intensity as impressions of bramble, thyme, spearmint, and green tea leaf contribute captivating fresh herbal undertones. Notes of river stones, grilled meat, and smoke gently impart further non-fruit complexity as wafts of violet, French lavender, and jasmine provide pretty floral lift. Hints of cinnamon, anise, and cardamom round out the presentation with a complex and diverse medley of spices that integrate perfectly with the uniquely savory and downright delicious profile. Strikingly nuanced and finesse-driven on the palate while possessing both incredible depth and surprisingly restraint; exhibiting a delicately powerful and highly cerebral presentation that is classically-styled, terroir expressive, and unquestionably spellbinding. Medium bodied with pronounced yet unaggressive tannin cut by beautifully elevated acidity. This 2019 SJR Vineyard Syrah by Pášxa Wines is age-worthy and awe-inspiring red from the Walla Walla Valley.
Located just across the Oregon border at the far southern end of the Walla Walla Valley, The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater is a unique winegrowing region that has emerged as one of America's greatest terroirs for complex and concentrated Syrah. This bottling, crafted by Pášxa Wines using Syrah sourced from the SJR Vineyard in the Rocks District, proves that power and finesse can seamlessly coexist in the wines of this incredible region. This elegantly exudes a berry-led dark-fruited profile layered with diverse selection of fresh herbs, peppery spices, meaty savory qualities, and unmistakable stony earthiness. It is an incredibly serious and well made wine that will benefit from moderate to long-term cellaring, however it is already drinking absolutely exceptionally. Brilliant.
