Nicolas Maillart
Champagne Nicolas Maillart is a small grower/producer based out of the tiny village of Ecueil just south of the city of Reims. They produce Champagne from a variety of climats around the area which are primarily premier and grand cru sites. Their wines tend to favor Pinot Noir and are medium bodied while expressing wonderful red fruit notes. They are terrifically complex showing beautiful leesy elegance and excellent acidity with ultra-fine bubbles.
The Maillart family has been involved in Champagne production since 1753. Nicolas Maillart of Champagne Nicolas Maillart is now the 9th generation of this lineage. Having grown up working with his father since he was just 13, Nicolas was destined to eventually take over the family business. After studying engineering and oenology and working for a stindt at Champagne Billecart-Salmon, Nicolas returned to lead his family's winery. We are very fortunate to have been able to do a full 6 hour tour and tasting at the vineyards and winery of Champagne Nicolas Maillart and could not recommend their wines any more highly. If you dig artisan Champagne these guys are a must taste, and their wines are still relatively affordably priced.
