2017 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc - Montgomery Vineyards

Grilled lime, sour grass, tart green apple. White grapefruit, elderflower, intense passion fruit. Lemon peel, green mango, and gooseberry preserves boom with incredible energetic verve, playfully bolstered in their aromatics by fragrant citrus blossom, black currant bud, and an array of pungent florals. Notes of fresh hay and mowed lawn swiftly emerge revealing a substantial dosing of pyrazinic charm before ceding to flint, wet stone minerality, and a shiny stainless steel twang. Zingy, crisp, and puckeringly tart on the palate; jovially showcasing juicy and ripe fruit that remains impressively zippy and fresh despite substantial weight. Medium plus in body backed by gobs of piercingly high acidity that cuts like a knife's edge. This 2017 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc by Montgomery Vineyard is a high-toned, crunchy, and refreshing Napa white.

Although once primarily known its for Sauvingnon Blanc crafted in a round and smoky oaked style, Napa Valley has today become home to an increasing number of bright and fresh interpretations of the variety. This bottling, crafted by Montgomery Vineyard using Sauvignon Blanc sourced from a single unnamed vineyard in Napa Valley, wonderfully exhibits the power, focus, and intensity possible when radiant freshness is prioritized. While it contains generous endowments of tropical, citrus, and orchard fruits this wine remains impressively lean and crisp thanks to a sizable punch of acidity. It is not quite as angular as a standard example from New Zealand yet still brings an impressive amount of energy and nerve that lovers of the more intense styles of Sauv Blanc are sure to appreciate. A fun, tasty, and enjoyable small production Napa white.
