2007 Altvs - Merus Wines

Sweet blackberry liqueur, graphite dust, melted milk chocolate. Ripe and wide open but with a surprising amount of structure behind the wheel. Velvety tannin and balanced acidity carry this wine through its paces. The 2007 Altvs Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is quite delicious and a surefire crowd pleaser.

Produced by Merus Wines out of Saint Helena, Altvs was designed to showcase Napa Valley's character by combining fruit from valley floor, hillside, and mountain vineyards into a lush, opulent wine. The warm 2007 vintage produced an impressive wine that is not simply forward and obvious but actually contains enough stuffing to keep a wine geek interested. This stuff would probably be considered "Cult Style" Napa cab by most, but it lacks the jammy cloying extraction that make so many of those cult cabs so heavy and sticky. If you stumble upon a bottle of this stuff you'd be silly not to give it a try.
