2020 Cabernet Franc “Fresh” - Luna Hart Wines

Barely-ripe dark cherry, fresh cilantro, tart black currant. Juicy plum, green bell pepper, cranberry preserves. Lovably bright and spunky spurts of wild blueberry, blackberry, and licorice lead a strikingly lively and expressive display coursing with beautiful herbal underpinnings of fennel, parsley, and green tobacco. Hints of bitter cacao, unroasted coffee bean, and jalapeño advance pleasant savory and vegital leanings that are gently softened by notes of cinnamon, anise, and mild spices. Wafts of wisteria, lilac, and rose bud bolster aromatics with interesting floral perfume that serves to enhance the juicy and energetic fruit. Delightfully tart, bright, and peppy on the palate while gushing with oodles of charming primary character; exhibiting a vibrant yet complex and characterful presentation that truly nails its varietal typicity. Light bodied with surprisingly elevated tannin offset by pronounced acidity. This 2020 Cabernet Franc "Fresh" by Luna Hart Wines is a terrifically fun and delicious red from Santa Barbara's Los Olivos District.

Grown widely throughout France perhaps most notably in Bordeaux and the Loire Valley, Cabernet Franc is an intriguing and adaptable grape that can be shaped into an astoundingly diverse array of wine styles. This bottling, crafted by Luna Hart Wines using Cabernet Franc sourced from the Honeybear Orchard Vineyard in Santa Barbara County, is a bright and attractive example of a leaner and lighter style of this variety. Although quite delicate and approachable this wine playfully radiates beautiful berry-driven fruitiness contrasted against plenty of Cab Franc's textbook green herbal qualities. While young and spirited this is perfectly ready to open and enjoy right away, although it has the structure to hold well for 3-5 years. Yummy.
