2015 Les Caillerets Volnay 1er Cru - Lucien Le Moine
Wild raspberry, pine needle, dried orange peel. Pomegranate juice, raw mushroom, peat moss. Fresh cranberry and crushed beet, rabbit pelt and goose down. Anise, clove, limestone, and dry rub. Pure heavenly ethereal fruit barely peeking through a dense coniferous forest complete with downed trees and fungal funk. Like a log cabin in the deep woods with smoke spouting from a brick chimey, guarded by a small fruiting cherry tree. This 2015 Les Caillerets Volnay 1er Cru by Lucien Le Moine is delicately powerful old world Pinot Noir perfection.
Lucien Le Moine is a young negociant founded in 1999 by two passionate individuals. While they do not own any vineyards themselves they buy grand & premier cru fruit from only the top climats in Burgundy's Côte-d'Or. This bottling comes from the Les Caillerets vineyard which is considered one of the very best sites in Volnay. This expertly crafted wine is delicate, seductive, and feminine - yet thanks to the warm 2015 vintage - also strong and substantial. Picture a female Olympic athlete who, while stunningly beautiful, has the gusto and power to tear you apart if she wanted to. Absolutely captivating and supremely inspiring, this bottling shows why red Burgundy still reigns supreme among fine wine aficionados.
