2012 Belles Filles Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon - Le Chanceux
Crushed black currant, bell pepper, crème de cassis. Tart black raspberry, tobacco leaf, shaved dark chocolate. Coffee bean and subtle vanilla, eucalyptus and bright violet. Tense and juicy dark cherry, blackberry, and barely-ripe blueberry mingle seamlessly with basil leaf and eucalyptus, articulating classic elegance and impressive freshness alongside great depth and complexity. Fragrant mature rose contributes beautiful upper-registrar aromatics seasoned with a dash of cinnamon and clove. Earth, iron, and pencil shavings tell tales of terroir and remain prominently integrated throughout the multidimensional attack. Medium plus in body with elevated acidity and a pronounced tannic backbone; expressing rare cool-climate energy that is neither thick nor sappy at a mere 13.5% ABV. This 2012 Belles Filles Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon by Le Chanceux is a magnificently balanced classically-styled red from one of Napa's most interesting new appellations.
Located near the southern border of Napa Valley and heavily cooled by breezes from the nearby San Pablo Bay, the appellation of Coombsville has emerged in recent years as a credible source for exceptional quality Cabernet. This bottling, crafted by Le Chanceux using 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from their estate Belles Filles Vineyard in Coombsville, is a remarkable example of why this growing zone is gaining major relevance. This wine is noticeably leaner, greener, and more acid-driven than most of the Cab coming out of Napa Valley today, and is highly reminiscent of the wonderful old-school style of wine that made Napa famous in the 1960's and 1970's. As global warming continues to heat up the valley it is appellations like Coombsville that will surely carry the torch into the future, and Le Chanceux is already ahead of the game with exceptional wine like this.
