2016 “Aspire” - Law Estate Wines
Roasted blueberry, smoldering charcoal, black forest cherry. Thick blackberry cobbler, sage brush, toasted plum. Baked black currant, huckleberry compote, and melted licorice form an incredibly dense, dark, and concentrated fruit core further amplified by powerful impressions of violet oil, juniper berry, and fire-grilled meat. Thyme, wild lavender, and desert shrubs advance the muscular attack with a medley of native herbs while mesquite and hickory wood provide a smoky and seductive edge. Decadent baking spices including French Vanilla, cinnamon, and clove emerge to impart a polished sheen that cannot offset powerfully rugged notes of brisket crust, BBQ rub, raw cacao. Within the rich and robust display a vein of rock salt and crushed limestone complements a pinch of earthy seasoning without detracting from wild full-throttle ferocity. Incredibly broad, chewy, and viscous on the palate; exhibiting brooding and beastly concentration while remaining remarkably complex and nuanced. Decidedly full bodied with gobs of velvety tannin supported by nicely balanced acidity. This 2016 "Aspire" by Law Estate Wines is an intense, inky, and enthralling red from Paso Robles.
Although Syrah grown in California can take on a number of vastly different personalities, this variety arguably reaches its most powerful and intense expression when grown in the limestone-rich hills of Paso Robles. This bottling, crafted by Law Estate Wines using 86% Syrah plus 14% Grenache sourced from their estate in Paso's Adelaida District, magnificently showcases this noble grape at its boldest and most fierce. This wine absolutely oozes a complex cornucopia of rich and saturated fruit yet it remains incredibly multidimensional thanks to a captivating barrage of smoky, herbal, and savory underpinnings. It is impressively well balanced despite its sheer magnitude and it maintains nice freshness and tension to boot. This is a seriously well executed offering by an exceptional estate producer.
