2016 Badacsonyi Kéknyelű - Laposa Birtok
Lemon lime spritz, citrus blossom, tart green apple. Underripe mango, sour grass, grapefruit peel. Stainless steel, gunpowder, and gooseberry zing with no sign of oak or malo. Tart then fruity and fully refreshing, like snacking on sourpatch kids and a sipping a pamplemousse La Croix. This 2016 Badacsonyi Kéknyelű by Laposa Birtok an ultra-interesting and unique Hungarian wine.
Kéknyelű is an ancient and very rare grape varietal found in the Badacsony region of Western Hungary. It was once quite popular but fell out of fashion to other more well known imported varietals, although recently its popularity has surged. Kéknyelű is a very difficult varietal to grow as it is not self pollinating. Intentionally oriented rows of male and female vines require the wind to pollinate the flowers. The mature grapes have thick skins and low yields, with high acidity and some aromatic qualities. This wine, produced by Laposa Birtok, is terrifically refreshing and perfect for hot summer days. If you enjoy European aromatic whites then you will really enjoy what Kéknyelű has to offer.
