2019 Estate Pinot Gris Pétillant-Naturel - Kramer Vineyards
Juicy Asian pear, frothy sea foam, grapefruit pith. Squeezed lime, candied ginger, fresh nectarine. Gala apple, shaved lemon peel, and honeydew rind highlight a remarkably bright and juicy attack bursting with zippy citrus zest and gorgeous primary fruit. A medley of lightly bitter herbs including diced mint leaf and thyme provide a complicating natural edge bolstered just a touch of pleasant root spice. Notes of sunflowers and dandelions reveal mild floral lift backed by crushed stone and minerals in a wave of subtly earthy delight. Hazy in appearance with moderate effervescence; exhibiting a zesty, raw, and crisp palate with a unique and complex textural component. Dry and medium in body with beautifully elevated acidity. This 2019 Estate Pinot Gris Pétillant-Naturel by Kramer Vineyards is a lively, exciting, and delicious Méthode Ancestrale bubbly from the Willamette Valley.
Literally translated as "Natural sparkling" and colloquially known as Pet-Nat, Pétillant-Naturel is an ancient style of sparkling wine created when a wine is bottled before its initial fermentation is complete. As alcoholic fermentation finishes in bottle all C02 created from then on is captured, creating a playful effervescence while retaining a majority of the wine's primary fruit character. This bottling, crafted by Kramer Vineyards using Pinot Gris sourced from their estate in Yamhill-Carlton, wonderfully showcases the freshness and vitality that makes Pet-Nat such a fun and unique sparkling style. This wine is exploding with tart and vibrant citrus-led fruit seasoned delicately with fresh herbs and delicious minerality. Its texture is quite distinct thanks to the small amount of fine lees that remain suspended within, and its bright acidity helps to provide tremendous amounts of refreshment. In a word: yummy!
