2012 Chassagne-Montrachet - Jospeh Drouhin

Joseph Drouhin - Chassagne-Montrachet.JPG

Fresh squeezed lemon, eucalyptus, white peach. Apricot, jasmine, clove, a wisp of struck flint. Crunchy pear slices dipped in a pinch of honey and covered in crushed hazelnuts. Young, tight, and powerful. Tons of room to grow but already showing so wonderfully after a bit of air. This 2012 Chassagne-Montrachet by Joseph Drouhin is a classically styled knock-out Chardonnay.

The Montrachet vineyard is unequivocally one of the finest areas for white wine production in the world. Split between the villages of Puligny and Chassagne, this vineyard produces some of the most powerful and concentrated Chardonnay in all of Burgundy. This wine, produced by Joseph Drouhin, only carries a village level classification. While it lacks a Grand Cru petigree it still bodes to the greatness that this area is capable of achieving at a fraction of the cost. We can get behind a glass full of some well-crafted white Burgundy.
